Ports of Call
Cruise from Southampton
- Hamburg: Red-brick waterways and a vast working port. Wander Speicherstadt and HafenCity, then head to the Elbphilharmonie plaza for big-river views. Alster Lake paths give a softer side to the city. If rain hits, Miniatur Wunderland is a safe, engaging bet.
- Rotterdam: Modernist angles on a mighty estuary. See the Cube Houses and Markthal, then take a water taxi for a brisk harbour spin. The Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen offers a curious, mirror-clad rooftop look at the skyline. Evenings hum along Witte de Withstraat.
- Bruges (Zeebrugge): Cobbles, canals and bell towers built for meandering. Arrive early to wander the Begijnhof and quiet back lanes, then pick a small museum to change the pace. A short boat trip shows the gables from the water. Good chocolate is everywhere; avoid the first shop you see.
- Le Havre (Paris): Paris by train is the classic option, but staying local works too. In town, MuMa, St. Joseph’s Church and the beachfront promenade link neatly on foot. The concrete modernism is striking and UNESCO-listed. Clear signposting keeps the day simple.
