Ports of Call
Cruise from London Tilbury
- Vigo (tours to Santiago de Compostela): A working Galician port with seafood bars by the quay. Stay local for oysters in the old market and views from Castro Park, or take the train or coach to Santiago’s famous cathedral. The waterfront promenade is an easy leg-stretch close to the ship. Simple logistics make either choice straightforward.
- Funchal (Madeira): Lush gardens, cable car views and a calm harbour. Ride up to Monte, then wander the shady paths or try the wicker toboggans for a brisk descent. Levadas tempt walkers with gentle gradients and wide Atlantic outlooks. A glass of Madeira in a lodge rounds it off nicely.
- Santa Cruz de La Palma (La Palma): Painted balconies and a slow, walkable centre. Stroll the Avenida Marítima, dip into the Naval Museum’s ‘Santa María’ replica, or head up to the Santuario de las Nieves for island views. Black-sand beaches sit within easy reach of town. It’s unhurried and quietly distinctive.
- Santa Cruz (Tenerife): Modern squares and museums with beaches nearby. Wander to Plaza de España and the market at Nuestra Señora de África, or take a bus to La Laguna’s UNESCO old town. The Auditorio and TEA add a neat shot of architecture. Las Teresitas is an easy taxi if you fancy a swim.
- Arrecife (Lanzarote): Low-rise lanes around Charco de San Ginés and a bright, breezy seafront. Venture to Timanfaya and Jameos del Agua for lava landscapes and Manrique design, or stay local for Castillo de San Gabriel and a harbour loop. Light winds make even a short walk feel fresh. Photos rarely need filters here.
