Ports of Call
Cruise from Southampton
- Funchal (Madeira): Green terraces and a glassy harbour set a gentle pace. Ride the cable car to Monte for island views, then stroll back through the old lanes. Levadas offer easy, shaded walks with bird calls for company. Try a tasting in a Madeira wine lodge before sailaway.
- Santa Cruz (Tenerife): Palm squares, galleries and a market worth a look. Hop the tram to La Laguna’s UNESCO streets or aim high for Teide’s volcanic scenery—the Auditorio curves by the sea for a quick architecture fix. Las Teresitas beach is a simple taxi ride to golden sand and a swim.
- Las Palmas (Gran Canaria): A real city with a fine urban beach. Explore Vegueta’s cathedral quarter, then drift to Las Canteras for a promenade walk and a dip. Buses reach Arucas for basalt stonework and gardens if you want a short inland hop. Plenty of cafés keep the pace unhurried.
- Arrecife (Lanzarote): Bright light, white walls and black lava. Day trips to Timanfaya and Jameos del Agua pair geology with Manrique’s design. Stay local for Charco de San Ginés and the small castle on its causeway. Even a short wander feels fresh in the trade-wind breeze.
- Lisbon: Hills above a slow, wide river. Choose Belém for monuments and a pastéis stop, or climb through Alfama for viewpoints and fado corners. A riverside walk from Cais do Sodré clears the head after busy streets. Trams, lifts and miradouros make a tidy circuit.
- Vigo: Granite steps and seafood by the quay. Walk up to Castro Park for harbour views, then drop into the old town for oysters and a glass. Ferries reach the Cíes Islands if the weather smiles. Trains to Santiago are straightforward for cathedral-seekers.
- La Coruna: Long promenades and the Tower of Hercules out on the point. The old town gives shaded squares and easy tapas. Aquarium Finisterrae adds a low-key family hour if needed. The coastal walk back to the ship is half the pleasure.
