Ports of Call
Cruise from Southampton
- Lisbon: A hilltop jumble of tiles, trams and viewpoints. Belém’s monuments tell the story of voyages, while Alfama’s lanes sing with fado at dusk. A pastel de nata is mandatory. River walks are vast, calm and straightforward.
- La Palma (Canary Islands): Green ridges, cobbled streets and calm harbours. Walk the balconied Avenida Marítima, visit Caldera de Taburiente for big skies, or linger at a café in Plaza de España. Small, bright and uncrowded.
- Santa Cruz (Tenerife): Cultural city with mountains in reach. Wander the old town, or head up to Teide for moonlike scenery. TEA and the Auditorio bring design to the day. Las Teresitas is nearby if you crave sand.
- Puerto del Rosario (Fuerteventura): Quiet capital of wind-sculpted island. Street art dots the centre, beaches edge the outskirts, and the Museo Miguel de Unamuno gives a glimpse of its literary link. It’s simple, sunny and slow.
- Arrecife (Lanzarote): Sea light and Manrique’s hand everywhere. Charco de San Ginés and Timanfaya top most lists, but the cactus garden and small castles fill gaps neatly. Cool breezes keep the strolls easy.
- Funchal (Madeira): Gardens, wine and a view at every turn. Take the cable car up and the wicker sledge down. Levada paths and harbour walks fill what’s left. The city glows warm at dusk.
