Ports of Call
Cruise from Southampton
- Funchal (Madeira): Steep streets, jacaranda shade and ocean views. Take the cable car to Monte, then visit the tropical gardens or stroll back via the old town. The Mercado dos Lavradores is handy for a quick taste of fruit and flowers. A harbourfront poncha is a tidy finish.
- Santa Cruz (Tenerife): City pace with island options close by. Explore the market and Plaza de España, or head inland to Teide for volcanic panoramas. La Laguna’s pastel streets are a short tram ride away. Easy to split the day between culture and coast.
- Las Palmas (Gran Canaria): A proper city with a great beach. Walk through Vegueta’s cathedral quarter and the Casa de Colón, then take a gentle swim at Las Canteras. Buses reach Arucas for basalt stonework and a hilltop view. Plenty of cafés for a late-afternoon pause.
- Arrecife (Lanzarote): Harbours, causeways and a clear Atlantic light. Timanfaya’s steam vents and lava fields give the headline day trip; Manrique’s miradors add the artistry. Stay in town for Charco de San Ginés and a loop over to the small castle. Breezy, bright and compact.
- Lisbon: Tramlines and tiled façades above the Tagus. Pick Belém for monuments and a custard tart, or climb into Alfama for viewpoints and fado corners. A river walk from Cais do Sodré clears the head after busy streets. It’s friendly to first-timers and rewarding for repeat visits.
