Alesund is one of Norway’s most distinctive coastal towns, known for its Art Nouveau architecture and island setting. Much of the town was rebuilt after a major fire in 1904, giving it a more unified look than many older ports. Visitors often head up Mount Aksla for views across the town, harbour, islands and Sunnmøre Alps. The centre is easy to explore on foot, with cafés, shops, waterfront walks and the Art Nouveau Centre close by. For a wider look at local marine life, Atlanterhavsparken aquarium is a popular option.
