Cherbourg is a port city in Normandy, France, with a long maritime history and a cruise terminal close to the town centre. La Cité de la Mer is the main visitor attraction, housed in the former transatlantic terminal and focused on ocean travel, submarines, underwater exploration and the Titanic. Passengers can also walk into the town for shops, cafés, gardens and harbour views. Cherbourg is often used as a gateway to excursions into the Normandy countryside, coastal sites and historic wartime locations. However, it also makes a case for a town visit from the ship.
