Ports of Call
Cruise from Southampton
- Cherbourg: A harbour town with maritime heritage and handsome quays. Visit La Cité de la Mer for the aquarium and submarine, then walk the Napoléon-era fortifications. Normandy produce fills the covered market and cafés around the port. It’s a gentle first step ashore with easy exploring from the pier.
- Porto (Leixões): Granite streets, tiled façades and the Douro sliding past Ribeira. Cross the Dom Luís I Bridge, tour a wine lodge in Vila Nova de Gaia and taste a classic tawny. Seek azulejo murals at São Bento station or Igreja do Carmo. Porto rewards an unhurried stroll between the riverbank and the hill.
- Lisbon: Hills, viewpoints and wide light over the Tagus. Ride a tram or head for Belém’s Jerónimos Monastery and the riverfront tower. Climb to Castelo de São Jorge and pause at a miradouro for the city’s red roofs. It’s compact enough to see the highlights in a day.
- Vigo: A working Galician port with a lively old quarter. Sample seafood around O Berbés or take a short trip to the hilltop Castro fortress for bay views. If time allows, consider a swift train to Santiago de Compostela. Vigo gives a good flavour in a short call.
